Pousada dos Anjos occupies 363,000 square metres (about 36 hectares or 89 acres) of gardens and woodlands, with a pond, stream and waterfall, country trails, open pasture and a spectacular view at the end of a fairly long ramble.
The Sun Deck is poised over the pond that impounds the source of the Paraibuna, which later joins the Paraitinga to form the legendary Paraíba. A small artificial waterfall, old water wheel, wood-fired sauna and natural rock pool with cascade make an enchanting spot. The pond can be the perfect place to enjoy the sunset or moonrise from a small boat.
The Social Space with bar, coffee shop and restaurant, living-room with fireplace and clay stove, stereo sound, a great many CDs, and home theatre with 200 DVDs, is decorated in local farmhouse style blended with comfortable modern furniture and some of the best Brazilian art.
The next-door Oca is a round building inspired by the style of a traditional Indian round hut with a library of books on the arts, local history and culture, health and the environment, and a meeting space with a projector and screen that can be used for exhibitions, courses and group activities. Its tribal atmosphere is elemental and rustic.
Nestling between Serra do Mar State Park and Serra da Bocaina National Park, Pousada dos Anjos has plenty of forest with abundant wildlife. Toucans, hares, tamarins, otters, wild ducks, owls and hedgehogs are seen quite frequently.
Horseback riding tours with guide can be arranged, as well as cart rides, oxback rides (photo) and rambles to forest waterfalls, a nearby mountain peak called Pedra da Macela, the beautiful historic seaside village of Parati and the colonial Gold Trail, among others.
